I planned to record a video and post on Instagram regarding the power of music but I haven't been able to do that. After various opinions have been shared regarding Rema's recent concert, my heart has been stirred again to speak on the subject of "MUSIC"
Dear Believer,
Music is highly spiritual. Music is beyond the beats/rhythm/melody. I have learned that songs encapsulate the value system of an artiste. What are you listening to? What is being sown in the soil of your soul? It's interesting how people pay less attention to the lyrics of a song. To be honest, I used to be like that until the Lord used the teachings of my mentor to deliver me. I remember her telling us to check the lyrics of songs and see if we can read it to ourselves. Can the lyrics motivate you to become a better person? If No, why are you listening?
There was a time I sang and danced to "Yahooze by Olu Maintain" that song promoted young adults to be involved in Cybercrimes in order to make money! It stirred up cybercrime movement that haven't been curbed. You'll hear songs like, "If you no get money, hide your face" Just wow! That song created this pressure and greed in people. Can you see how music shapes our society? Can you now see that the value system of a nation can be influenced through music? We now embrace songs that promote lust, masturbation, drunkeness, greed and all sorts of immorality.
I ask again, what are you listening to? What are you vibing to? Many believers have opened the gates of their souls to demons through the music they listen to. It could just be that the reason why you still battle with pornography and lust is because you haven't made Jesus the Lord over your playlist.
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
I made a decision in 2018 to surrender my playlist to the Lord. Any song I'm listening to has to pass through the Phil 4: 8 test. If it checks all the boxes of that scripture, I'll listen to it. If not, I discard it. This helped me clean my playlist and search for artistes whose songs glorified the Lord.
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
The flesh loves to be entertained. It loves pleasure. Be careful of the entertainment you take in. May the Lord help us all.
If you have questions regarding this subject, drop them in the comment. I'll definitely answer them.
